The Institute of Teaching and Learning

We believe in the acquisition of very important learning skills as well as an ideological understanding of what good learning is all about and what it’s for. I think that’s the kind of thing that separates our students from others.

Mark Beverley, Director of Curriculum

Learning without limits

The Institute of Teaching and Learning will ensure we continue to lead and innovate, to provide a broad and balanced education, a challenging curriculum, and inspiring teachers who are not afraid to find new ways to engage students.

We believe the world is our classroom. Curiosity is the spirit that drives the curriculum, not the grade at the end of it. Our education is not just about exams, but preparing students for further study and working life. With open minds, our students are encouraged to interpret new ideas, think independently and learn to reflect, adapt and originate. Sevenoaks is a meeting of diverse cultures and perspectives, and our community is encouraged to look outwards and collaborate locally, nationally and internationally.

Driven by core IB values and principles, our evolving curriculum gives us the flexibility we need to foster interdisciplinary teaching across subjects, and implement innovative teaching and learning methods. This is evidenced by the introduction of the Sevenoaks School Certificate across seven subjects, designed to develop students’ personal interests and flexibility in what they learn.
